What Is a WiFi QR Code?

A WiFi QR code is a special QR code that encodes your WiFi network name (SSID) and password in a standardized format. When someone scans it with their phone camera, their device automatically prompts them to connect to the network — no password typing required. It's supported natively by iOS (Camera app) and Android 10+ without any additional app.

Perfect for homes, offices, cafes, hotel rooms, waiting areas, and any space where guests need WiFi access without the friction of reading out a complex password character by character.

Instant Guest WiFi: Print your WiFi QR code on a card and leave it on your desk, counter, or welcome table. Guests scan once and connect — the password never needs to be spoken or written on a visible sign where anyone walking past can photograph it.

How WiFi QR Codes Work

The QR code encodes data in the format: WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;; where T = security type, S = SSID (network name), and P = password. When a phone's camera app reads this format, it recognizes it as WiFi credentials and triggers the system's "Join Network?" prompt automatically.

How to Generate a WiFi QR Code

1

Enter Network Name (SSID)

Type your WiFi network name exactly as it appears when scanning for networks on your phone.

2

Enter Your WiFi Password

Type your password. It's masked by default — click the eye icon to verify before generating. Processing is local — your password never leaves your device.

3

Select Security Type

Choose WPA/WPA2 (most common home and office networks), WEP (older — avoid), or None (open network, no password).

4

Customize & Download

Set QR code size, choose foreground/background colors, optionally add your logo. Download as PNG or SVG for printing.

Security Types Supported

  • WPA / WPA2 / WPA3: The current standard. Works for 99% of home and office routers. Choose this for most use cases.
  • WEP: Legacy encryption — very insecure. Only use if your router is too old to support WPA (time to upgrade that router).
  • No Password (Open): For open public hotspots with no password requirement.
  • Hidden network: Enable this option if your SSID is set to not broadcast — the QR code will include the hidden flag so devices can still find and connect.

Design Options for Your WiFi QR Code

  • Colors: Change the QR code color from black to your brand color. Keep high contrast between the code color and background.
  • Logo embed: Add your business logo in the center of the QR code. Our tool ensures sufficient error correction to keep the code scannable with a logo overlay.
  • Size: Download at any size. For print: 5cm × 5cm minimum for reliable scanning from arm's length distance.
  • Label text: Add "Scan for WiFi" text below the QR code in any language.
