What Is Scan to PDF?

Scan to PDF is the process of taking scanned document images — whether from a physical scanner, a phone camera, or a scanning app — and converting them into a clean, organized PDF file. When OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is applied during this process, the result is a searchable PDF where the text can be selected, copied, and found with Ctrl+F.

This transforms a static image of a document into a functional digital document that behaves like any other text-based PDF.

Most Common Use Case: You have a stack of physical documents (receipts, contracts, certificates, handwritten notes) and need to digitize them into organized, searchable PDF files for storage, sharing, or archiving.

Why Searchable Scans Matter

  • Find information instantly: Search through hundreds of scanned pages to find a specific clause, name, or number
  • Copy text: Extract text from scanned invoices, contracts, or certificates without retyping
  • Accessibility: Screen readers can read searchable PDFs — plain image scans are inaccessible
  • Smaller file size: A properly structured searchable PDF is often smaller than a raw high-DPI scan image
  • Professional standard: Legal, medical, and corporate document management systems require searchable PDFs

How to Convert Scanned Images to PDF

1

Upload Your Scanned Images

Upload JPG, PNG, TIFF, or BMP scans. Multiple images can be uploaded at once — each becomes a page in the final PDF.

2

Arrange Page Order

Drag thumbnails to set the correct page sequence. The order you set here is the order pages appear in the PDF.

3

Enable OCR (Recommended)

Toggle OCR on to make the text in your scans searchable. Select the document language for best accuracy.

4

Convert & Download Searchable PDF

Download your professional PDF. Every page is your original scan image with an invisible, searchable text layer on top.

Tips for Better Phone Camera Scans

  • Lighting: Use even lighting — avoid shadows crossing the document. Natural daylight is ideal.
  • Angle: Shoot directly above the document, not at an angle. Camera parallel to the page.
  • Contrast: Black text on white paper gives the highest OCR accuracy. Coloured paper reduces accuracy.
  • Apps to use: Microsoft Lens, Adobe Scan, and Google PhotoScan all automatically detect edges and correct perspective before saving.

Minimum Quality: For reliable OCR, scan at least 300 DPI (or use a phone camera at full resolution). Low-resolution scans produce high OCR error rates, especially for small text.

Combining Multiple Scans Into One PDF

For multi-page documents scanned page by page, upload all images at once and arrange them in order. Our tool combines every image into a single unified PDF — one file for a 20-page contract, one file for a full month's receipts, one file for an entire report. Much cleaner than dozens of separate image files.
