Why Extract Data From PDF to Excel?
PDFs with financial data, scientific results, price lists, inventory tables, and statistical reports look great on screen but are completely useless for data work. You can't sort, filter, calculate, chart, or import PDF data into another system without extracting it first. Manual retyping is slow, error-prone, and frankly unnecessary when a PDF to Excel converter does it instantly.
- Import financial report tables into your own financial model
- Extract price lists from vendor PDFs for comparison in Excel
- Convert government statistical data tables into analyzable spreadsheets
- Pull invoice data into your accounting software
- Migrate data from legacy PDF reports into a modern database
Time Saving: A 10-column, 200-row table takes 2+ hours to retype manually and introduces transcription errors. PDF to Excel extraction completes in under 10 seconds with 99%+ accuracy for digital PDFs.
How PDF Table Extraction Works
Our converter analyzes the PDF's internal structure to identify table regions based on line positions, text alignment patterns, and spatial relationships between text blocks. Each identified column and row becomes a cell in the Excel output. For digital PDFs, this process is highly accurate. For scanned PDFs, OCR extracts the text first, then the table structure analysis maps it to cells.
How to Convert PDF to Excel
Upload Your PDF
Upload any PDF containing tables or data. The tool previews detected tables so you can confirm before converting.
Select Tables to Extract
All detected tables are highlighted. Choose which tables to include — useful when a PDF has both tables you need and tables you don't.
Convert to XLSX
Each table becomes a separate worksheet in the Excel file, named by page number and table number for easy navigation.
Download & Use in Excel
Open in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Data is in proper cells — ready to sort, filter, calculate, and chart immediately.
Handling Complex Tables
- Merged cells: Our tool preserves merged cells where possible. If the Excel output needs merged cells removed, use Format Cells in Excel to unmerge and fill.
- Multi-row headers: Detected and mapped correctly in most cases. Verify header rows after extraction.
- Tables spanning multiple pages: Automatically joined into a single continuous table in the Excel output.
- Mixed data types: Numbers, dates, and text are detected and formatted correctly in their respective Excel column types.
Multiple Tables Per Page
PDFs often have several tables on a single page — our tool detects each one separately and outputs them as individual worksheets. You can then reorganize, merge, or reference between sheets in Excel as needed for your analysis.

Convert PDF to ExcelScanned PDF Data Extraction
For PDFs with scanned tables (image-based, no selectable text), our tool runs OCR automatically before table extraction. Accuracy is slightly lower than digital PDFs — expect 95%+ for clean high-resolution scans. Always verify numbers in financial data extracted from scanned sources.
